IPL 2026 Opening Night Analysis
The King Reigns at Chinnaswamy Stadium!
Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru chase 202 in just 15.4 overs to humble SRH.
1 1st Innings: The Sunrisers Hyderabad Counter-Attack
Winning the toss, Rajat Patidar made the bold choice to bowl first on a traditional Chinnaswamy "belt." The move looked like a masterstroke when debutant Jacob Duffy struck twice in his first over, dismissing both Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head before they could settle.
However, SRH captain Ishan Kishan responded with a captain's knock on his debut as leader. His **80 off 38 balls** featured a gallery of pulls and lofted drives, punishing anything short. He found an able partner in Heinrich Klaasen (31), as they rebuilt the innings with a 74-run partnership.
A late blitz by Aniket Verma (43 off 18) ensured SRH crossed the 200-mark, a psychological barrier that usually guarantees a close contest on this ground.
2 2nd Innings: The King Virat Kohli's Masterclass
Chasing 202, RCB openers came out with clear intent. Devdutt Padikkal was the primary aggressor, smashing **61 off just 26 balls**. His ability to clear the infield during the powerplay meant RCB stayed well ahead of the required rate from the start.
After Padikkal's departure, the stadium erupted for Virat Kohli. The King played a "Vintage" knock, mixing delicate placements with raw power. He didn't allow the SRH spinners any rhythm, specifically targeting Suyash Sharma for three consecutive boundaries.
Supporting him was Rajat Patidar, who hammered **31 off 12 balls** (SR 258.33), turning a difficult chase into a comfortable stroll. Kohli finished the game with a flurry of boundaries, ending unbeaten on **69* (38)** and sealing the win with 26 balls left in the bank.
